I am not in-network with insurance. However, you may be able to receive financial reimbursement from your insurance if you have out-of-network benefits.
Wonder if you have this benefit?
Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask the following:
1. Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health Telehealth visits?
2. What is my out-of-network deductible, and how much have I already met?
3. What percentage does my plan cover after the deductible? If they ask what the code for the service is, it is 90834.
4. Is this percentage based on the therapist’s rate or the insurance allowed rate? If based on the insurance rate, what is that?
5. How do I submit an out-of-network claim, and where do I send the paperwork?
To give you a sense of what this can look like, here is a made-up example:
Out-of-network deductible: $2,000
You’ve already paid: $500 & must pay $1500 to reach your deductible
Percentage covered: 50/50 coinsurance (meaning your insurance reimburses you 50% of the cost after deductible is met)
You would pay the remaining deductible of $1500 out of pocket (about 7 sessions). Then future appointments would be eligible for the 50% reimbursement.
If based on the therapist’s rate ($220), you would be reimbursed $110 for each appointment, bringing your net cost down to: $110 per session.
If based on the insurance rate (for example if their rate is $130), you would be reimbursed $65, bringing your net cost down to $155 per session.
*Please note that every insurance plan is different, and I cannot guarantee that your plan includes this benefit or that your insurer will reimburse you for services.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 985-3059.
